Named for James Hunter, who had migrated from Virginia, The Hunter is actually themed after big game hunters. The four-poster queen size bed and the generous desk (that houses a printer) will be most useful when you sign on to the WiFi Network (furnished at no additional cost) are only two features of the cozy bedroom with its own private bath. A wingchair and ottoman as well as a loveseat compliment the room. Relax with your complimentary bottle of wine and basket of goodies. Surf the net or the numerous satelite stations. Moreover, just bring a compelling book and cocoon. The Hunter has its own private entrance.

The Boxley was in the Webster family for many years and at one time was inherited by Nan Webster. The Webster, as it is appointed today, would have made Nan Webster quite happy, at least her nephew, Ben, who made frequent visits to The Boxley in the 40s and 50s, feels that would be the case. Nan lived over one hundred years and The Boxley was always at the center of her life though she had married and moved to nearby Winston Salem. Each summer, throughout the decades, she would take up residence in her "country home." The Webster, located in the main house, has a private bath and is delightfully comfortable. A sip of your complimentary wine in front of the lovely fireplace, that makes the room one of the most enjoyable at The Boxley, assures a memory that will linger long after your relaxing stay is over.

Theo's Legacy, so named for the hostess' mother, is in the old Slave Quarters. Also built on a stacked stone foundation, the room boasts beautiful wide plank pine floors and an ambience that will lull you into another time and era. The complimentary wine and comfort food will be one of the few reminders of the work-a-day world. Furnished with a queen-sized bed and ample space it is a charming eclectic environment in which to work or simply past a relaxing time. Sign on to the net via WiFi since, like all our rooms, the work/leisure requirements are easily met as each room has WiFi, cable (incuding C-Span, CNN, Fox News and most popular channels). Theo's Legacy contains a desk equipped with a printer and CD Rom for easy installation via your laptop. And for your added privacy, Theo's Legacy also has its own private entrance.

The Regulators, one of whose leaders was James Hunter, have been much debated. The debate – were they the first to actively rebel against the King or was their defiance a simple act of civil disobedience? In either case, most scholars agree that their actions were directly responsible for North Carolina’s relative calm during the Revolutionary War. By the same token, some of the very men who labeled themselves “Regulators” were at King’s Mountain when many of the North Carolina militias, including the infamous Watauga Men, gave the British, under Ferguson and Cornwallis, a really trying time thus leading to the beginning of the end for British rule in America.
